Live Music & Events (5/30-6/2)

LIVE MUSIC & EVENTS THROUGH SUNDAY, JUNE 2

Hey, music lovers. Here's the music lineup as it currently stands. It's a bit quieter than last weekend. There are a few special things I'd like to highlight: Ambrosius is doing a Led Zeppelin Tribute concert at Locos tonight. Cool. WAY cool. Saturday there is a Benefit for Lois Polezos at Coastal Kitchen that will feature Vi Fluentis children's choir as well as the bands involved. This benefit will help our beloved Super Sax Man Michael Hulett and his business manager Jim Polezos with expenses they have incurred for Lois' medical treatment and care. Admission is free, but all donations will go directly to Michael and Jim. Instead of Reggae Sunday, this Sunday The Club at Bennie's will be hosting a fundraiser for Seaside Enrichment Camp. This camp is a great program for children raised by their grandparents. The fundraiser includes music, a live auction, door prize, and a BBQ buffet.

Keep in mind that there are often last minute stragglers or people who announce their schedule on the days of the gigs, and I'll add these if I hear of any other bands playing anywhere. So check here before you go out for the most current and accurate music listings. As always, hope to see you out and about!

Memorial Day 2013

A day of celebrations and barbeques or a day of solemn remembrance? It can be both.

A beautiful way to mark the occasion is the Taps at Twilight ceremony at Neptune  Park on St. Simons Island. The event is sponsored by the Rotary Club of St. Simons Island, includes patriotic music, including a bagpipe introduction, marches for each branch of the armed forces, and a trumpet playing "Taps" to close. I married an Army officer, was the daughter of a Marine, and had several other members of my family who served as well, so for me it's hard to keep a dry eye. This year's guest speaker is U.S. Marine Major General Larry Taylor. Bring your chairs and your family to the ceremony at 6:45 p.m. to mark your observance of the real reason for this holiday.

Music on Memorial Day:

Backbeat Boulevard will liven up the Village, playing outside at Brogen's South from noon to 2:00 p.m. and 4:00-6:00 p.m. These guys always put on a great show from sweet ballads to high energy favorites, you're bound to hear some tunes you love.

Monday nights are Open Mic Night at Palm Coast Coffee on St. Simons Island. Always popular with locals and island visitors alike, the outdoor venue is a great spot to sit back and listen to the music. Sign up starts at 8:00 p.m., music begins at 8:30 p.m.

Tipsy McSway's in downtown Brunswick is hosting a special blues show featuring Manew Blew on Monday night. Manew, a frequent visitor from France, is a blues singer and harmonica player. He will perform with fellow musicians Jim Barcaro and Tom Leon on guitar. Music from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. No cover.

Whatever your Memorial Day plans, make sure there's some music involved! Enjoy the day and be safe out there!

Music Schedule May 23-27 (through Memorial Day)

Here we go! This is the first of what will be weekly (at least) blog entries detailing the live music around the Golden Isles each week. My plan is to post on Thursdays to get the best, and most up to date information from the bands and venues. I only list what I know about, so if someone is missing, it's not intentional, it's just that I didn't have information provided by the musician or the venue. The more people share with me, the more I can share with you. Suggestions on how to improve are also welcome! My purpose is to promote live music and entertainment in this wonderful community in which we live. Please subscribe to the blog, share my entries, and encourage people to LIKE the Facebook page.

Thanks!

Where's the Music??

Here we go, lovers of music and entertainment, I'm starting up this blog to spread the word about who's playing where & when and what else is going on in the Golden Isles, just in time for summer. It's going to be a work in progress and I'll tweak it as I go along, but I think it's important to share info about local bands and support our fantastic music scene and entertainment venues. So bear with me as I figure out the best way to do this.

As Maria wisely advises in The Sound of Music, "Let's start at the very beginning. It's a very good place to start..." Where to find the music. These are the local venues I'll be referencing in upcoming blogs letting you know who's playing where around town. If other places start booking live music, I'll add them to the list, but for now, here's what we've got.
